Affordable bedroom furniture done the House & Garden way
Your bedroom should be your sanctuary; the room where you feel most at rest so, when decorating it, it can feel as if the stakes for getting it right are quite high.
The number one thing to know is that stylish bedding and bedroom furniture doesn't have to break the bank and, if you're willing, there are plenty of nifty tricks you can implement to make high street pieces feel high end. Four poster bed frames can be dressed up with curtains, bedside tables and cabinets can be painted, and Ikea pieces can be jazzed up with Superfront handles and façades. If space is at a premium, consider a hanging rail in place of a wardrobe. They look lovely but take up much less room.
In the spirit of this, we've compiled a selection of affordable but beautiful items–some high street, some one-off–to help you create the bedroom design that best suits your personal taste.

7/21Paisley Floral Garland Stencil, £19.95 from Annie Sloan.
If like me, you have bought many a dodgy piece of furniture which is still lurking around the house, instead of replacing it why not invest in stencils? Annie Sloan does a marvelous line, so even the crudest painter can give their furniture a Charleston facelift.
8/21Lampmaker Red Bamboo Lamp, £55 from Etsy.
Picked as one of Octavia Dickinson's favourite Etsy shops, Lampmaker have the most lovely range and any of them would brighten up even the plainest room.
9/21Baloo Mirror, ebony finish, £145 from Pooky.
Pooky do the most wonderful lamps and lampshades, so it's not surprise they make lovely mirrors, too. This particular piece caught our eye with its stylish simplicity.

A pretty rack for shoes, decorations, clothes, or anything you so desire.
13/21Morris & Co Pure Willow Bough Wallpaper, eggshell and chalk, £79.20 from John Lewis & Partners.
Oft seen adorning the walls of interior designer's, like Ben Pentreath and James Mackie, homes, this wallpaper is a failsafe choice for a bedroom. Good news it's particularly affordable. It is understated and elegant whilst still packing a punch.
14/21Scallop Wall Light, £99.40 from Jim Lawrence.
Lobsters had a moment, then it was pineapples, now the shell is having its time in the sun. I am slightly wary about buying them, because like all trends it will pass. However style prevails with these classic scallop lights from which will continue to look cool long after all the shell cushions have made their way to landfill.
15/21Aftas Oval Jute Rug, natural, £44.50 from La Redoute.
Jute is one of the most hardwearing, trusty materials to use underfoot. It adds plenty of warmth and drama, without be too distracting. This example is sustainably made and quite lovely. For other styles and shapes, head to our gallery on the best jute rugs where you'll find a wealth of options.

Every bedroom needs more storage than it has, so this pretty little storage box could be the answer to your troubles. Display it proudly atop your chest of drawers or tuck it away in your wardrobe and use it to organise your socks!
21/21Washed Linen Plain Duvet Cover, taupe linen, £89 from La Redoute.
House & Garden editors and interior designers alike have been charmed by La Redoute's linen bedding. As designer Joanna Plant says, "I’m mad about La Redoute…their AM/PM range is particularly good. I have recently bought properly heavy linen and hemstitch sheets for very little money."
