When planning a wedding, you'll find that inspiration for the event can strike at any time. You might see a particularly charming colour combination in an advert, or read a vivid party description in a book. Perhaps, you'll open up a copy of House & Garden and find a room that hits the exact note you're searching for your special day to strike. If the latter sounds like you, then you're in luck, as we've compiled three wedding tablescape schemes based on beautiful rooms in our archive.
For the black tie wedding
Lucy Hammond Giles made a case for yellow and black in this dining room, opting for a sophisticated mustard shade on the walls and joinery. Black details in the Magistretti chairs, tabletop and fireplace surround bring some drama to the room, which is kept light by the pretty vine mural on the ceiling and Delft tile fireplace surround. These colours would work well for a wedding in spring, summer or autumn, and bring both a jolly feel and a weight to the table which would stand out. A scattering of pretty white flowers down the tables to emulate the ceiling mural would be a wonderful flourish.
For the garden wedding
The scheme in this room by Phoebe Hollond centres around the lightness of the green on the bookcase contrasting with the heaviness of the antique furniture and oversized lights. This sense of drama can be recreated by pairing wooden candlesticks and cutlery with light green candlesticks, and layering green ceramic plates over teak plates. Pairing this with blue striped napkins in a similar colourway to the Vanderhurd fabric on the chairs add a jolt of colour to the scheme, which would look lovely in a country house setting or on tables strewn across a lawn under a constellation of lights.
For the destination wedding
Gavin Houghton's Tangier house is full of colour and his living room with its striped ceiling and fireplace paired with vibrant textiles and artworks is a constant source of inspiration. Look to it for courage to clash your patterns and colours with aplomb, layering sunbeam plates on striped plates on a Lisa Corti tablecloth for the ultimate drama. Imagine this at a Mediterrean wedding, surrounded by lemon trees and the setting sun – heavenly. Bright red lacquer cutlery from Sabre finishes the scheme nicely, with little wicker lampshades bringing a calm note and keeping those candles flickering all night long.
