The White Company's best selling artificial Christmas tree is currently 20% off for Black Friday

Now is the time to invest in that faux fir

Black Friday comes but once a year. It brings with it a window of opportunity to purchase discounted Christmas gifts, furnishings you've long had your eye on and, in our case, that artificial Christmas tree that'll complete the festive decoration of the house.

This year, we sent House & Garden contributing writer, Jessica Salter, to go and test tens of trees, in pursuit of finding the very best faux fir. At the end of this rigorous testing period, she declared The White Company's Symons Nordmann Fir at the best of the bunch. Pleasingly, for one week only, The White Company are offering 20% off their artificial Christmas trees (as well as hundreds of other products), so now is the time to pull the trigger and purchase the tree for less.

House & Garden's verdict:

The White Company's Symons Nordmann Fir is our top pick this year. Having tried a number of Christmas trees, we determined that this artificial tree to be the best of the bunch. With its hyper-realistic branches, natural shade of green and fluffy looking tips, the overall effect is festive without feeling faux. The seven and a half foot tree is over four feet wide, and is comprised of over 1,754 hand painted (yes, really) tips for a bushy and bright effect. We tested the one without lights, but The White Company have a pre-lit version of the same tree for a hassle free Christmas decorating session.

Extra points are allocated to this tree because it comes with a stylish wicker basket tree skirt that covers up the tree's base and means you don't have to buy anything extra. Our favourite extra touch is that The White Company has designed a coordinating scent, aptly named fir tree, so you can spray the tree and it'll capture the fragrance so you won’t miss that real ‘Christmas tree’ smell.

House & Garden's verdict

Having tested multiple trees to find the very greatest artificial Christmas tree, we found the Symons Nordmann Fir to be the best of the bunch. Coming from The White Company, purveyor of stylish homewares, you'd anticipate their range of artificial trees to be excellent. They have not disappointed.

The Christmas tree features hyper-realistic branches rendered in a very natural shade of green that closely resemble the real thing. The 7.5ft Symons tree is around 4ft wide, which is generous for a tree of this price. It has 1,754 tips to give a voluminous, bushy effect. The tree is easy to assemble, coming in three parts that slot together.

There is a pre-lit version, as well as a regular edition, so whatever your preference there's something for you. The pre-lit version features built-in warm-white LED lights.
