For the past year or so, mine had been the kind of mattress that stayed put due to the shame of having to lug it to the curb in broad daylight. Bought for a pittance when a house move made researching long-term comfort overwhelming, I suffered nightly pokes to the ribs through threadbare fabric until I eventually retreated to a corner of my bedroom with a duvet and Japanese tatami mat. Suffice to say, a proper night’s sleep felt like a distant memory.

So, when I was offered the chance to put the luxuriously named REM-Fit® 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress through its paces, my only question was: How quickly can it be delivered? (Spoiler alert: nearly as fast as it takes to roll up a tatami mat and stash it in a hallway cupboard!) I’m someone who starts on my back, then rolls onto my right side. Unusually for a predominately side sleeper I’ve always preferred a fairly firm surface, so this mattress, aimed as it is for classic side sleepers, faced a bit of a sleeping-position challenge. Could this hybrid really deliver the balance of comfort and support my weary body had been craving – or was it destined to be another mattress mistake?

REM-Fit®600 Lux Elite Hybrid, single

REM-Fit® 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress: is it worth buying?

Harbouring romantic notions about the charm of single beds meant that I was in the market for a smaller mattress. REM-Fit’s 600 Lux Elite Hybrid is the most premium of its four hybrid models – combining multi-zoned support through layers of hyper-responsive springs and high-tech foam. At £729.99 for a single, it won’t exactly break the bank, but it does sit at a price point where you’ll want to enjoy it for a good while before thinking about whether a matching topper might refine the experience further. I also tested one of REM-Fit's pillows and a mattress protector to complete the set. If you choose to order a protector alongside your mattress, the standard 100 night sleep trial extends to 200 nights, so it's well worth doing and will prolong the life of your new mattress.

Tentatively sitting on the edge of the mattress for the first time, I noticed that not one of the 4,000 contouring pocket springs is wasted. The bounce was immediate and unfamiliar – supportive yet responsive – and frankly, delightful. I would compare REM-Fit’s 500 Cool Gel Pillow to very firm dough – a sumptuous, almost sculpted experience – and the same comparison extends to the mattress itself.

All of REM-Fit’s mattresses are made in the UK, and the craftsmanship is evident the moment the packaging comes off. There were no tell-tale chemical smells, just a crisp, hotel-quality sleep surface that exudes freshness. I was advised to wait a few hours before hopping in, but the contrast with my threadbare old mattress was already night and day.

The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid feels at once cloud-like and firm – an unusual combination that I quickly came to recognise as indulgent comfort. Lying first on my back, then on my side, I realised I wasn’t missing the ultra-firm surface I once thought essential. Better yet, I didn’t wake with that familiar ache in the right side of my neck, the sign that a night’s rest has gone very badly indeed. For me, the mattress feels exactly ‘medium-firm’, perfectly tuned to my weight and my predominantly side-sleeping style.

That said, I suspect heavier sleepers may find they want something with a little more firmness, but for me this mattress strikes the balance beautifully. It’s supportive, comfortable, and – most importantly – it has delivered consistently better sleep since it arrived. I can genuinely see this being my loyal sleep companion for the next 7–10 years. At last, a mattress that lives up to the hype.

Delivery

The REM-Fit® 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress arrived within three days of ordering, delivered by a two-person team. I opted for the free ‘Silver Service’, which meant the mattress was carried in, unboxed, and the packaging whisked away – though do note, removal of your old mattress isn’t included. For £34.95, REM-Fit will collect and dispose of your previous mattress, which is well worth considering if you’re upgrading.

The new mattress arrived compactly vacuum-packed and, once released from its wrapping, began to take shape almost instantly. Within a few hours it had settled into its full form, ready for use. Although it’s a hybrid with 4,000 pocket springs, one person was able to manage the carry, which made manoeuvring it into place refreshingly simple.

REM-Fit also offers one of the most generous sleep trials around. You can test your new mattress for up to 200 nights – provided you order a mattress protector at the same time (without one, the trial is 100 nights). You do need to use the mattress for a minimum of 30 nights before making any decisions, to give your body time to fully adjust. Should you decide it isn’t the right fit, returns are free of charge, making the whole process remarkably straightforward.

REM-Fit® 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress verdict

At £730 for a single, the 600 Lux Elite sits at the premium end of REM-Fit’s range, but its balance of comfort, support, and cooling technology makes it a worthwhile investment – particularly for side sleepers or anyone prone to back pain. With generous trial terms and consistently competitive pricing, it’s a mattress designed to deliver long-term value as well as better sleep.
