The hugely successful series follows the loves and lives of the Bridgerton family, a high society Regency Family who seem to have scandal and romance running in their veins. Each plot is punctuated by salacious scandals appearing in a mysterious newsletter written by ‘Lady Whistledown' (who we know to be Penelope Featherington). The first series focused on the fourth Bridgerton child and eldest daughter, Daphne, as she enters high society and navigates the many potential suitors offered to her. Moving through the family, the second series told the story of Lord Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest son and head of the family. The most recent third series premiered in two parts in May and June 2024, and delved into the love story between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. Viewers are no doubt already feverishly anticipating the next series; find out everything we know so far below.

What will happen in Bridgerton season 4?
As previously mentioned, Benedict and his search for true love will take centre stage in the upcoming series. This will principally involve the character of Sophie, played by Yerin Ha (Halo, Dune: Prophecy). Season 4 will kick off with a masquerade ball hosted by Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell, where Benedict first encounters Sophie disguised as the mysterious Lady in Silver. Sophie (secretly a maid!) becomes the anchor of Benedict’s journey as he finally confronts his restlessness in search of something more permanent. Yerin says of her upcoming starring role: ‘what drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome'.
We have already seen Benedict involved in various romantic dalliances in the first three seasons, so is this the point where Benedict will leave his bohemian lifestyle behind and settle down? According to Luke Thompson, 'Benedict has always been a little lost — or free depending on the way you want to look at it. But now he's trying to find something a bit more solid in himself'.
Reunited best friends Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), whose friendship has matured since the last season ,will also be back and better than ever. “They’re more bonded than ever!” showrunner Jess Brownell says. “Their trials and tribulations last season have added new depth to their friendship, and we’re excited for viewers to see how their relationship looks now that they’ve each grown up a little.”
The event also introduced a few of the stony locations where the next chapter of the drama will unfold, including Benedict’s cozy countryside escape, My Cottage.

Bridgerton season 4 cast
Luke Thompson will finally step into the spotlight, as Benedict Bridgerton and Yerin Ha is starring as his love interest, the mysterious Lady in Silver, Sophie Baek. Several familiar faces from previous seasons are also confirmed to return. This will include the previous season’s principal couple, Colin and Penelope Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan. Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley are back as Anthony and Kate Bridgerton, while Ruth Gemmell reprises her role as Violet Bridgerton. Beloved cast members such as Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, and Polly Walker as Portia Featherington are also expected to appear.
Who are the new characters in Bridgerton Season 4?
As in earlier seasons, we can expect the appearance of new characters. Katie Leung steps into the role of Lady Araminta Gun, a twice-married and twice-widowed matriarch intent on securing advantageous matches for her daughters. Her eldest, Rosamund Li, played by Michelle Mao, is striking, ambitious, and eager to live up to her mother’s high expectations. In contrast, her younger sister Posy, brought to life by Isabella Wei, is gentler and more whimsical. Often overlooked by her mother, Posy’s bubbly, talkative nature sometimes leads her into awkward moments, yet her warmth and charm may prove just as captivating to those around her.
What happened in Bridgerton season 3?
Season 3 focused on Penelope and Colin's blossoming relationship, with episode four coming to a crescendo as Colin asks Penelope ‘For God’s sake, Penelope Featherington, are you going to marry me or not?’ after a stolen kiss in the back of a carriage. The second half of the series followed the couple's turmoil after the reveal of Penelope as the true identity of Lady Whistledown, their subsequent marriage followed by more turmoil, with their eventual reconciliation at the end of the series.
Elsewhere, Francesca Bridgerton quietly fell in love with and then wed Lord John Stirling in the series finale. The matriarch of the family, Violet Bridgerton, struck up a flirtation of her own: with Lady Danbury's brother, Lord Anderson. Somewhat of an antagonist of the series, Cressida Cowper had a tumultuous time in season three that allowed us to see her softer side; she attempted to navigate the difficulties of both family and social life, and gain financial independence in a world dominated by men. Hopefully, in series 4 there will be some more development of these side storylines.
